Unit 3 Assessment 1 and 2

Today I moved onto assessment 1 and 2 for Unit 3.


Assessment 1 (Part 1)


This activity required me to collect examples of a number of documents created by different people, the type of documents I needed to collect was the following:


- Short (Letter)
- Extended (User Guide)
- Graphical (Chart)
- Promotional (Leaflet)
- Informal (Text)
- Formal (Agenda)


For each of the following documents I had created, I then when onto explain what the document was, what was the purpose for the specific document and lastly the target audience of the document too.


Assessment 1 (Part 2)


Part 2 of this assessment was to describe the features of different applications which made them suitable for presenting and communicating information.


I was required to choose one application from the following categories:


- Text based
- Graphics
- Presentation Based
- Other e.g. mobile phones, email, multimedia.


For the four applications I gave an explanation of the application, described the features which are included in the application. Then finally included what types of information the application is used for. 


Assessment 2


In this assessment we was required to review each others work in terms of are minutes recorded. Me and I peer paired up and sent each other are minute meeting reviewing them adding comments on suggestions on possible areas of improvement which related to possible detail which was included.


Once we had received are reviews back then we had to act upon the feedback which was given to us.

Week 3: Unit 3

Today I have started a new unit which is based around presenting information using IT.


Activity 1


I was given a case study that I was working for a company called PTIN who specialise in the support of small business.


The case study states that the manager is not happy with the email which has been displayed and it is my job to reformat the email in a professional email.


For my first activity I was required to amend an email which I had been used incorrectly, picking out the spelling mistakes and the incorrect language used. (E.g. Informal and Formal language.)


Once I outlined the errors within the email, I was writing improvements which needed to be made.


I followed this up by redrafting the email in a professional manor, allowing the email to be a up to a formal business standard.


Once the email was fully redrafted I then wrote a report to the manager commenting on the changes which I have made to the email, and why they are improvements. Overall I created a very professional email using the correct language and formatting techniques to suit the correct audience.


Activity 2


The second activity involved me to team up with two other members in my class, once teamed up we was required to have a meeting and record the minutes from the meeting. The meeting involved agendas and actions to show evidence that the meeting took place.


The meeting which took place was about an order form, we needed to found out information concerning the creation of the order form. The three of us broke of doing different tasks, it was my job to review the layout of a order form to see what the typical characteristics are so that we can include those in are very own order form. It was my other class mates job to research the contents of a order form to help us put together are very own so that we know what to include. Lastly it was the final class mates job to create are business information so that we can include that information when creating the order form.


Once the three of us had conducted are research we finally came together to have are final meeting which allowed the three of us to discuss what we found out.


Once the meeting was over I then created the order form, through are meeting and research it really helped me create an effective and professional order form.


Activity 3


This activity required me to create my newsletters for PTIN which was the business involved in the case study.


The newsletter was required to include the following:


- Graphics, columns, text boxes
- Latest news
- Case studies
- Web
- Social
- Other

Day 4

Today I have created my Personal Development Plan, which will help me progress through the next four weeks of this course.


The plan which I have created outlines objectives which I want to complete, I have set a realistic deadline in order to meet my objectives. I have also included what I will need to do in order to complete these objectives e.g. the activities I need to undertake and what support and resources I will need also to complete the objective.

Day 3

Today I have completed three assignments for activity 3 this involved me completing:


- Demonstrate a range of effective interpersonal skills
- Use IT to aid communication
- Communicate technical information to a specified audience


This activity involved me creating a presentation about Microsoft words spelling review tools.


While creating the presentation I created two slides for each tool on the following:


- Spell Check
- Grammar Check
- Thesaurus


I made two slides with an overview of the tool, and a slide displaying how to use the tool. The presentation included images and text in order to display my information.


Once I had completed my presentation, I presented my presentation to my class and discussed each slide explaining to the audience what each slide was about, while also giving additional information about the slides.


While presenting my presentation two of my peers observed me, marking me on certain criteria. The observers job was to grade me on my level of detail, presentation, body language and eye contact among other. Finally they wrote comments about my presentation on what was good and bad and offered improvements.

Day 2

Later on in the day I completed a further two assignment objectives which consisted of:

- Explaining the personal attributes valued by the employee.

-  Demonstrate a range of effective interpersonal skills.

Firstly for the first assignment I discussed what attributed valued by employees which consisted off:

- Specific Skills
- General Attributes
- Attitudes

I further completed a report of 75 words for both Specific skills, general attributes and attitudes of a chosen job which I had found.

The last part of the task involved me typing up an observation from a member of the group I was working with, observing the communication between myself and him.

Day 2

Today I have completed three assignment objectives for Unit 23:


- Explain the principles of effective communication
- Discuss potential barriers to effective communication
- Use IT to aid communications


Through completing these three assignments I have discussed communication relating to:


- General Communication
- interpersonal Communication
- Written Communication


I have also discussed potential barriers which are involved within these three types of communications such as:


- Distractions
- Lack of Concentration
- Background Noise
